Model 201 Type A Durometer
Pencil Style
Durometer
Type A: For soft rubber
and plastics
The PTC® Analogl
Pencil Style Durometers are manufactured to meet or exceed current ASTM
D2240 specifications and designed to measure the indentation hardness of
rubber, elastomers, and other rubberlike substances such as neoprene,
silicone, vinyl, nitrile and butyl. The 360¢X dial features bold, easy to
read numbers indicating a specific value, with a 0.2 resolution. A standard
maximum hold hand retains the peak reading until reset. The durometer's 1/2"
diameter base (1.3cm) is the smallest base permitted by ASTM D2240
specifications. This allows it to be used in confined or hard to reach areas
other durometers cannot test.

Model 202 Type D Durometer
Analog Pencil Style
Durometers
Type D: For hard rubber
and plastics
The PTC® Analog
Pencil Style Durometers are manufactured to meet or exceed current ASTM
D2240 specifications and designed to measure the indentation hardness of
hard rubber, plastics, and substances such as acrylic, delrin, kevlar, pvc,
nylon and lexan. The 360¢X dial display features bold, easy to read numbers
indicating a specific value, with a 0.2 resolution. A standard maximum hold
hand retains the peak reading until reset. The durometer's 1/2" diameter
base (1.3cm) is the smallest base permitted by ASTM D2240 specifications.
This allows it to be used in confined or hard to reach areas other
durometers cannot test. The dial has a red zone to indicate unreliable
readings. Readings below 10/D may be inexact and should be measured with a
type A Durometer.
Test Stands are available

Model 415B Equivalent
Rockwell B Scale
The Model 415B comes
complete with test block, conversion calculator, and carrying case. The
unit is mounted in a stationary mill, drill press or lathe in use.
¡@
The instrument consists of
a completely redesigned chassis made from aerospace aluminum, which houses
a high quality displacement gauge. The upper end (the shank) is the
gripping area for insertion into a milling machine, drill press, or lathe.
The lower end is the load cell. It extends up into the body of the
hardness tester and houses a center less ground precision spring which
preloads the hardened steel indenter.
The impression made by the indenter in the metal being tested is a very
small hemisphere and is equivalent in size to a superficial examination in
size. The resistance of the metal sample surface to the indenter results
in the gauge pointer being moved to a corresponding hardness reading.
Minimum sample thickness is 0.025" for most materials. If the indenter
does not make a dimple on the opposite side, the material is thick enough
for accurate testing.
¡@
The Model 415B is designed
for use by inspection and quality control personnel, heat treaters, tool
and die makers, mechanics, welders, etc. This unique instrument is the
handiest and the most economical way of grading and checking various
metals in equivalent Rockwell B range of 40HRB to 100HRB
Specifications:
- Range 40 HRB to 100 HRB
(equivalent Rockwell B Scale).

Metal Hardness Tester
Model 415 for fast HRC testing from PTC Instruments
¡@
The Model 415C comes
complete with test block, conversion calculator, and carrying case. The
unit is mounted in a stationary mill, drill press or lathe in use.
¡@
The instrument has a
completely redesigned chassis made from aerospace aluminum which houses a
high quality displacement gauge. The upper end (the shank) is the gripping
area for insertion into a milling machine drill press, or lathe. The lower
end is the load cell. It extends up into the body of the hardness tester
and houses a center less ground precision spring which preloads the
diamond tipped indenter.
¡@
The impression made by the
indenter in the metal being tested is a very small hemisphere and is
equivalent in size to a superficial examination. The movement of the
indenter into the hardness tester causes the gauge pointer to read the
corresponding Rockwell C Scale hardness.
¡@
Minimum sample thickness
is 0.025" for most materials. If the indenter does not make a dimple on
the opposite side, the material is thick enough for accurate testing. The
Model 415C is designed for use in machine shops, laboratories; and by
inspection and quality control personnel, heat treaters, tool and die
makers, mechanics, welders, metallurgists, etc.
¡@
This unique instrument is
the handiest and the most economical way of grading and checking various
metals in equivalent Rockwell C range of 20HRC to 67HRC. The instrument
comes complete with two test blocks (high and low ranges), conversion
calculator, and carrying case

Measurement
Principle
The
Handy Hardness Tester model SH-21 differs completely from
traditional hardness testers. Instead of measuring the size
of the indentation of the test sample using a microscope, it
uses a diamond indenter equipped with a vibrating rod that
presses on the test surface at a fixed load and then
measures its hardness by applying ultrasonic vibrations and
analyzing its damping effect. When the vibration rod is
applied to a soft-surfaced test sample with identical
qualities and at a fixed force, it makes a deep indentation
and gets locked into the groove. Due to this, the resonance
frequency increases. Conversely, it does not get locked in
when used on hard test samples and the resonance frequency
drops. The test sample's hardness can be calculated using
the correlation between this deviation and the tested
hardness.

Portable Metal Hardness Tester
The Webster
Hardness Testers are a portable, fast, accurate hardness gauge that are
made in three distinct models for testing Aluminum, Brass, Copper and
Mild Steel. Webster Hardness Testers will quickly identify tempers and
test a variety of shapes that other testers cannot check, such as
extrusions, tubing and flat stock.
All testers operate
in the same manner but differ only in penetrator design, type of load
spring and hardness ranges. The principle of operation is simple. The
work to be tested is placed between the anvil and the penetrator.
Pressure is then applied to the handles until "bottom" is felt at which
time the dial indicator is read.

Model B
The Model B Tester
is designed to cover the hardness of aluminum alloys from the 100 to the
7075 series. The 20 graduations on the Webster dial indicator covers the
range between 25 and 110 on the Rockwell E Scale.
¡@
Model B-75
The Model B- 75
Tester was developed to obtain more sensitive response to slight changes
in the upper range of hardness covered by the Model B. This sensitivity
is particularly useful in testing mild steel and the stronger aluminum
alloys. For brass the B-75 covers the range from annealed to full-hard.
This added sensitivity is accomplished by incorporating a penetrator of
slightly different contour and a heavier load spring than used in the
Model B. The 20 graduations on the Webster dial indicator covers the
range between 20 and 100 on the Rockwell B Scale.

Model BB-75
The Model BB-75
Tester was developed to answer the need of certain industries for a
method of rapidly testing the hardness of electro-deposited copper in
the low hardness range. The B-75 penetrator is used to give sensitivity,
and the Model B load spring is employed to give light pressures. This
combination allows the user to test the soft range of many common
materials. The graph below shows the range covered by the Model BB-75
tester on copper.
